What To Consider Before Buying Lifting Chain Slings?


Lifting chains and slings are used in the construction, mining and materials handling industries to lift heavy objects. A lifting chain is a series of links connected by pins or shackles that can be attached to a hook with a load-bearing capacity of up to 5 tons. There are several factors to consider when selecting lifting chain slings. The chain must be strong enough to support the load, and it must be able to withstand the forces of the load. Grade 80 or Grade 100 chain for lifting?

If your project requires flexibility rather than strength, then grade 100 may not be the best choice for you and if the price is an issue, you’ll obviously want to avoid it altogether.

You should make sure that the leg length of your sling is at least equal to its capacity. For example, a 4,000 lb capacity sling should be used with legs that are at least 4 inches in length. If you use a leg length shorter than this, it may not be able to support your load. If you have a larger capacity sling and use short legs, it could cause the material to fail and collapse under load.

Sling Headroom

Headroom is the distance between the sling and the load. Headroom is important because it prevents loads from hitting slings during lifting, which can lead to damage to both equipment and personnel. The amount of headroom varies depending on the type of rigging system being used, but most commonly, it is specified in inches on drawings that are issued with lifting chain slings.

The gauge

The size of the chain links is a primary factor in determining how much weight your sling will be able to lift. It is also related to the weight of each link itself, which can be found by multiplying the length and width together. In general, chains with larger gauge numbers are stronger than those with smaller gauges.
